We spent 3 days at this remote wonderland in August 2011. The hospitality blew us away. The kindest most accomodation staff I have ever met. Food was excellent. Staff taught us salsa dancing, assisted us with expanding our Spanish and gave us access to their personal computers to do emails. We felt like the staff were our long lost relatives that were now taking care of us. We highly recommend this place.

We had a memorable vacation at Aguilla de Osa in early december and experienced great diving, hiking and most of all, wonderful people on the staff. We felt welcome from the minute we stepped on the property and had unbelievable help in organizing our tours and diving. The diving was some of the best we ever had as far as quality of fish life and we had our first experience seeing Pacific fish and did not have to fly 15 plus hours to do it! We will definitely return and hopefully in the next year!

Aguila de Osa Inn was excellent. Remote yet lots to do… Hikes, night walks, kayaking, walk to town, beaches, trips to Corkovado park and Cano Island to snorkel and hike. Saw whales, dolphins, monkeys, birds, snakes, iguanas, frogs, etc., etc., etc. The staff was superb, very friendly and accommodating ( I have a food allergy and they couldn’t have been more accommodating – thank you). Room was lovely, but damp feeling at times, but you get used to that. We would go back in a second and highly recommend this Inn for a genuine Costa Rica experience.

Room Tip: Ask for one closer to the Dino area. Ours was right at the top and it was quite a hike each time to get to our room. Good exercise though.

CORCOVADO NATIONAL PARK TOUR

Situated just 20-30 minutes by boat from Aguila de Osa Inn, Corcovado National Park is world renown as one of Costa Rica’s crown jewels of rich diversity and spectacular scenery.

San Pedrillo Ranger Station:
San Pedrillo is Corcovado National Park’s northernmost ranger station, and this excursion provides an unparalleled opportunity to explore the dense jungle of primary and secondary rainforests adjacent to the ranger station. Your guide will point out many of the diverse species dwelling around the trails during an hour and a half hike. You may see white-faced and howler monkeys, white-lipped peccaries, scarlet macaws, coati, and more. The trails are clearly marked and easy to navigate, ascending and descending through the verdant rainforest. After the first hike and a break for lunch, you will have the opportunity to hike to a beautiful waterfall, the perfect chance to take some photos and swim under the smaller falls nearby.

Sirena Ranger Station:
For those who are interested, we also offer tours to Corcovado’s Sirena Ranger Station. This ranger station is also located along the Pacific coast, but further south in the middle of the Park. The boat ride to Sirena from the hotel takes over an hour, well worth it for those who are interested in exploring the Park’s interior, where the most abundant wildlife dwells. There are several trails that surround the ranger station, where you’ll observe many species including scarlet macaws, Baird’s Tapir, monkeys, peccaries, iguanas, sloths, lizards, and a wide variety of plants, amphibians and insects.

New – VIP Corcovado National Park Tour- Sirena Biological Station by Plane:
The day starts with breakfast at 6:30 A.M. leaving the hotel at 7:00 sharp! Our boat driver will take you to the town beach (wet landing) to catch a taxi that will take you to the Drake Bay airport for the flight to Sirena Station. During the flight looking out your windows you’ll get to look over the entire Corcovado Park. You’ll fly over Corcovado Lagoon the unexplored rainforest and beaches of the Osa Peninsula. Your flight will be approximately 20 minutes. Upon arrival your naturalist tour guide will lead you through the forest trails pointing out the flora and fauna of one the most biologically intense places on earth. After lunch you’ll board your plane for the flight back to Drake Bay.

We recommend that you bring sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, bug repellent, binoculars, bathing suit and hiking shoes. While hiking along the trails you’ll find yourself crossing streams and rivers, in addition to traversing across slippery, sloping terrain. Sandals are not recommended for the hiking portion of the tour.
This tour includes lunch, (either boxed or picnic, depending on the ranger station you choose), which may include a variety of tropical fruits and drinks, salad, sandwiches, and cookies, which are served at the end of the hikes. Shortly after you’ll board the boat and return to Aguila de Osa Inn.

Only 12 nautical miles from Aguila de Osa Inn, Caño Island is a paradise for snorkelers, scuba divers, swimmers, and sunbathers alike! The Island can be seen just minutes after leaving the protected cove of the hotel, and the boat ride takes about 45 minutes. During the months of the Northern and Southern migrations (December to April and July to November) you may be lucky enough to spot humpback whales or dolphins frolicking in the ocean on your way to the Island!

Your boat will anchor at two different sites close Caño Island, and your snorkeling guide will point out the diverse species living just below the surface. The dark, volcanic rock and the open water around the Island are home to a variety of marine life including Olive Ridley and Hawksbill Sea Turtles, White-Tipped Sharks, several species of Moray Eels, Mobula and Sting Rays, big Cubera Snapper, schools of Horse-Eyed Jacks, King Angel fish, Grunts, Barracudas, and much, much more.

Between snorkeling trips, you will have time to relax on the beach and enjoy the beauty of Caño Island. This tour includes lunch, which may include a variety of tropical fruits and drinks, salad, sandwiches, and cookies. Lunch is prepared by your tour guide and served around midday at shaded picnic tables on the beach. The Caño Island Park Ranger Station has an office, public bathrooms, and an outdoor, freshwater shower.

TripAdvisor Review:

“The snorkeling trip to Caño Island was terrific where we saw all kinds of colorful fish and the picnic lunch that was spread out for us (prepared by the Inn) was amazing. We were treated like royalty.”

The challenge and excitement of some of the world’s best big game fishing awaits you at Aguila de Osa Inn. Over 40 International Game Fish Association (I.G.F.A.) records have been set within 80 nautical miles from our hotel, with catches including Sailfish, Black, Blue, and Striped Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Cubera Snapper, Spanish and Sierra Mackerel, Roosterfish and more. Aguila itself holds four world-fishing records. The Aguila de Osa Inn has the reputation of being a fisherman’s paradise.

Our Palm Beach 31-foot cold-molded sport fishing boats are powered by Caterpillar 3116 turbo diesels. We carry a full range of Penn International and Shimano reels in all weight classes. We also accommodate fly fisherman, but ask that you bring your own equipment. If you have any questions about what equipment to bring, please do not hesitate to contact our office. Our professional captains (all English speaking) and crew are anxious to be part of your record-breaking sport fishing vacation.

Aguila’s professionally trained mechanics constantly maintain our boats to the highest possible standards for your safety and enjoyment. Our boats meet all the U.S. Coast Guard safety regulations with lifejackets, flares, GPS, and VHF radios. In addition, we are equipped with a special frequency that enables us to reach a far greater distance than the normal marine radios in case of an emergency.

Thrilled by spectacular runs of big game fish, guests can take advantage of our 1/2 day or full day fishing charters. Aguila de Osa Inn practices responsible catch and release fishing techniques and is the oldest operation in the area to use circle hooks.

FISHING SEASONS

Marlin – December through April is peak season, but an occasional blue or black may be taken any month if the water temperature is right. This year, the marlin activity was incredible between February and March, with some weighing in at over 600 pounds.

Sailfish – a few may be taken off and on year-round with the exceptional fishing from December through April. Often slows from May into early June, then picks up again and begins to peak in August or September.

Yellow Fin Tuna – best fishing for the bigger ones corresponds with marlin and sailfish season, but the schools of footballs can nearly always be found around Cano Island and farther outside.

Dorado – best runs are traditionally from late May through December.

Wahoo – not abundant, but an occasional Wahoo may be taken any time. Can be caught between May and October while trolling for sailfish.

Roosterfish – the region has big roosters and they can be caught virtually any month of the year. Some weigh nearly 100 pounds but they average between 6 – 30 pounds.

Snook – almost all year round, but best from May through August and January through March fishing for Snook is best from on shore in the river or on the beach close by the hotel bring a small rod and with a small white lead weight with white feathers work best.

Other Species – the Horse-eye Jacks, Jack Crevalle, Amber Jack, Spanish mackerel, Cubera Snapper, and Mutton Snapper are here year round.
