Below are the most common ways to get to us:

Flying

There are currently 3 domestic airlines flying from San Jose to Drake Bay:

Sansa and Skyway Airlines fly out from the main international airport Juan Santamaria. Aerobell flies out from Pavas the Tobias Bolaños International Airport which is approximately a 30-minute drive from the international airport and 10-15 min from central San Jose (depending on traffic).

Charter Flights are available, please ask our reservation department if you would like a quote.

From Drake Bay airport to Aguila de Osa: We can arrange for a taxi to pick you up from the airport. From there he will drive you to the beach (15 minutes) where our boat will be waiting for your arrival and give you a very short ride to Aguila’s dock. There you will be greeted by one of our staff members and taken to the restaurant for a welcome cocktail and an orientation.

Flying to Palmar Sur

It is a good alternative if all flights to Drake Bay are full, although it takes a bit longer and requires a little more coordination in order to meet the boat schedule. However, it gives you the opportunity to take the amazing boat ride between Sierpe and Aguila de Osa.

If you fly to Palmar Sur we will have a taxi pick you up there and take you to the little town of Sierpe which is about 10 minutes away. your driver will take you directly to Aguila’s dock on the Sierpe River from there, you will board a boat to Aguila de Osa.

The boat ride takes approximately an hour and goes through the largest mangroves on the Pacific Coast in Central America. You’ll travel the Sierpe River to the river mouth that connects to the Pacific Ocean. Aguila dock is a short 15 minutes from there where you’ll be met by one of our staff members head up to the restaurant for a welcome cocktail and a short orientation.

Private Van Service

Private vans are a good way to get around in Costa Rica especially if you are several persons travelling together. The price for a private transfer from San Jose to Sierpe is usually between $200-$230, and from Manuel Antonio to Sierpe between $130-$150. Definitely an option to consider if all flights are full, if you are already on the Pacific Coast, or simply if you are willing to appreciate the beautiful Costanera road (Coast Road).

Driving

We recommend our guests who are travelling with a car and are driving to Sierpe to catch the boat ride to Aguila de Osa. Your car can be left in our 24-hour guarded property which is adjacent to our dock, or if you have a rental car most agencies will pick your vehicle here at our property if it has been arranged (most of them operate in the area).

It is possible to drive to Drake bay however, we do not necessarily recommend it, being a dirt road that implies having a good 4-wheel drive (several rivers to cross and the road can be quite bumpy in some areas). Also, there is no place at the hotel to park since there are no roads leading to Aguila de Osa.

Costanera (Coast Road) to Sierpe

From San Jose: 4h 30 min
From Quepos / Manuel Antonio: 2h
From Uvita / Dominical: 1h – 1h 30min

If you leave from San Jose look for route #27 to the coast road #34. It’s a nice 45-minute ride through the hills of the central valley until you come to the turn off for Jaco and Quepos. From there you will have to drive for approximately 200 km (125 miles). Approximately 15 minutes after the turnoff on route #34, you should stop at the Tarcoles Bridge to observe the enormous crocodiles that reside in the river below. From there you will keep heading down the Pacific coast through the country side and along the coast while driving past several small towns.

It will be the same road until you get to Palmar Norte where you will have to travel cross the Terraba River bridge. After the bridge take a right and follow directions to Sierpe (16 Kilometers – 10 miles). Our dock is located across the main square of Sierpe on the river side, you’ll see our sign Aguila de Osa and drive right in our guard will show you where to park. Our boat leaves a 11:30 almost every day. If you are running late please let us know by call us at +(506) 8840 –2929 and if possible, our boat will wait for you.

How to get around

You made it to Aguila and now you think you’re lost in the jungle.

Well guess what, that is not completely true! A couple of hundred meters away from the hotel you will find Drake bay’s main beach. From there you can walk up the dirt road that will take you to the village of Agujitas (20 min from the hotel approximately). There you will find a handful of restaurants, convenient stores, a pharmacy and a small clinic.

On the other side from the hotel, you will find the hiking trail that goes to San josecito Beach. This trail goes passed a few dozens of gorgeous secluded beaches. The first one is called Cocalito and it’s a 20 minute walk from the hotel.
